ASBESTOS AND NATURAL DISASTERS GUIDE

How to Ensure Your Safety From Asbestos and Debris After a Disaster

When people think of hurricanes or natural disasters, the obvious threats come to mind: destroyed homes, falling trees, downed power lines, wild animals, and more. But most people forget that millions of buildings in the United States are still filled to the brim with asbestos.

Our friends over at The Mesothelioma Center have this to say:

"Debris caused by hurricanes can expose homeowners, emergency workers and volunteers participating in the cleanup process to hazardous materials that can contain asbestos. Asbestos exposure is a leading cause of cancer. The amount of debris that piles up after a hurricane is significant and can quickly overwhelm a community and breakdown normally strict guidelines for handling hazardous materials."

The Mesothelioma Center has put together a great (and potentially lifesaving) guide on what you need to know about asbestos during natural disasters. The button below will even skip you directly to the portion of the article on hurricanes!
